Ayuttaya
Ayuttaya is about 3 hours North of Bangkok within Thailand's central region. Ayuttaya was previously the old capital of Thailand, called Siam before the Burmese army sacked the city in 1767. Ayuttaya can be compared to Angkor Wat in Cambodia, with a number of ancient temples which are now a UNESCO World Heritage site. Ayuttaya see's the Lopburi, Prasak and Chao Phraya Rivers meet. To explore the ruins many guest houses hire bikes and you sgould be able to view everything within 1 or 2 days.
Ayutthaya Thailand Tip:
Do hire some bikes to ride around the many wats. Make sure you put plently of sun lotion on and drinks lots of water, it can get very hot riding around all day. There is some quite good night life around if you have a search, there are many areas where you will find no Farang so can be an interesting place.
