Bangkok Nightlife - Ratchadamri Road Bars & Clubs
If you are a Bangkok local then you will definitely know about Ratchadamri road, but if you are just a traveller then the chances are that you will never hear about it let alone see it. Ratchadamri road is basically a huge road in Bangkok that could be comparable to the Las Vegas strip which is rammed full of clubs and bars. To be honest this area is not really a Farang hang out and it is pretty hard for travelling Farang to get to, but if you do get to it the bars and clubs are wicked. The best way is to go to with a Thai, if you know one.
Practically every bar and club has quality live music, playing Thai and Western numbers. Most bars and clubs will give you a table and a bill as opposed to going to the bar to get a drink - this makes is doubly hard for Farang to get to without a Thai. Drinks served are Whiskey or Whiskey, as I said this is not a Farang hang out and in most bars and clubs you will not find beer being sold, so it is all about Jonnie Walker. When going to the loo you will find guys in the toilet giving messages, which if you are a Farang you will find very strange, but this is Thai style so just say Mai Ow Krup (Don't want thank you) if you get stage fright.
The atmostsphere is awesome in the bars and clubs and very much Thai style. The attitude is perhaps the friendliest on the planet and very different to any bar in Thailand with Westerners inside. Be prepared for plenty of chok dee 'ing (cheers). The only problem is, is when someone Chok Dee's you, you are supposed to down your whole glass of whiskey.
Thailand is 7 hours ahead of the UK , which means 3pm Saturday kick off's will be at roughly 10pm Thai time. Dance Fever as well as other clubs will have massive screens showing live Premiership football, usually 4 games at a time. Now considering you can't even get 3pm kick off's on Sky Prem + in the UK it is pretty unreal to be able to down Jonnie Walker while watching 4 live games.
Many clubs in the Ratchadamri area are themed. One particular club called Pump Up is themed like a garage. A concierge will park your car outside and you may be lucky enough to get a free car wash. Every hour or so, a car from the car park is driven inside the club - yes inside on stage and a number of good looking lasses will wash it. So if your car was parked outside, then it could be your car on stage that is getting a wash.
As well as the large clubs like Dance Fever, Hollywood and Pump Up, there are so many smaller bars/clubs that are pretty underground. If you know where to go you could quite easily be able to spend all night raving even though alcohol is suppose to be stopped serving at 2am. Bang Swang is one particular out door venue that will go on serving Jonnie Walker until 6am maybe later. They are pretty switched on by serving the drink in Green Tea bottles.
