Koh Samet

Koh Samet is a small undeveloped island that perhaps is not always the travlers first choice when you have the likes of Koh Samui and Koh Panghan to choose from, yet Koh Samet is awesome and very popular with some. Becuase Koh Samet Thailand is smaller and under developed in comparison to some of the southern islands, there is a great atmostsphere about it.

The infrastructure is just dirt roads so transport around the island is in the form of pick up trucks. There are a few good places to stay and the most notorious is Ao Phai, which is where the night life is centred. This is the most lively place and has some good restaraunts as well a quality beach. You can do some serious chilling here and the sellers who walk up and down the beach who offer massages to fresh pine apple mimic the layed back atomostsphere of Bali. In the evenings you can sit on the beach and drink Singha\'s while watching fire jugglers. Koh Samet is a really chilled out place and this is perhaps the reason why it is so popular.

On ther northern side of the island there is a great floating restaraunt that is well worth a visit. There are some fabulous views the main land Thailand and the food is also top quality. Koh Samet gets pretty busy on the weekends so book accommodation in advance. After visiting all the other islands in Thailand you may find that Koh Samet was your favourite.

Koh Samet is only a 3 hour bus journey away from Bangkok. You can catch a bus via the Bangkok southern bus terminal Ekami to the port Ban Phi where you will catch a connecting boat to Koh Samet.

Koh Samet Thailand Tip:

Ao Phai is the party place, there is an awesome bar and a great atmostsphere. Be careful around the southern tip of the island there is a whole group of scary men dressed as women, you may see them in the bar in Ao Phai so watch out.
